The Opportunity
Due to continuing growth within the organisation, we are seeking to expand our Infrastructure Team by expanding the dedicated resources in this area. The opportunity is working with a high performing, service-oriented and collaborative team.
We are looking for a Design Engineer to join the London Office. This is an exciting time for Robert Bird Group, as we go through continual expansion and have a full portfolio of landmark buildings and infrastructure projects which presents an opportunity for someone looking to further their career within a thriving engineering consultancy.
Duties
Preparing reports, designs and drawings for infrastructure related projects including bridges, footbridges, retaining walls, culverts, station boxes and other rail and road related structures.
Being mindful of constructability and how that is to be incorporated in design
Using tools to measure and, where possible, actively reduce carbon output, considering sustainability at all stages of design
Undertaking calculations for new and existing structures in a diversity of materials like RC concrete, masonry, steel and cast iron
Assessing existing structures (rail or road infrastructure), from initial inspection for assessment to delivery of repairs
Attending site inspections, previously completing specific Health and Safety documentation and trainings as required
Liaising with relevant professional staff and organisations like Network Rail or High Speed 2.
Supporting project leaders on commercial related elements of the work like fee proposals, variations or invoices
Working collaboratively supporting junior team members
Growing the automation and coding skills via in-house and in-project learning
Experience and Knowledge
- BEng (Hons) or MEng (Hons)
- Working towards being chartered with ICE or IStructE
- Relevant structural engineering experience, specially in the rail or highways environment.
- Understanding of the approval processes for projects for Network Rail, High Speed 2 and/or Transport for London (or similar)
- Site experience on a rail environment, PTS training is desirable
- CSCS card.
- Coding experience is advisable
- Software used: Lusas and Strand7, recommendable; alternatively Etabs or Midas; Python
