Graduate Engineering Programme

Every year we select the best science and engineering students to join our Graduate Engineering Programme.

One of our core values at Robert Bird Group is agility. We have a can-do attitude which means we proactively engage with challenges arising in the course of our work to achieve outcomes which are best for people, projects, and clients. We aim to hire the best talent to help solve some of the world’s most complex engineering problems.

We have a dedicated graduate programme with a rotational system which provides you the opportunity not just to become a well-rounded engineer, but to help you understand more about the industry.

Before the end of the Programme, we will work with you to identify a role within Robert Bird Group which best matches skills and interests with opportunities for career development.

Starting in October every year, our Graduate Engineering Programme runs for 24 months with an initial 12 months rotation in our teams. During your second year you’ll have the opportunity to work with two different teams giving you exposure to a range of expert knowledge and skills to broaden your understanding of engineering.

Throughout the two years you will work on real world projects and be supported by your line manager and mentors. You will be provided with the opportunity to make a significant contribution from the get-go. As part of your training, you will be set milestones to achieve such as attending site visits, client meetings, developing a growth mindset, tracking CPD, technical writing and presenting skills. Each group of graduates meets regularly for development sessions to share experiences and insights and build relationships and networks.

We know the transition moving from education into full-time work might be difficult, which is why we ensure our graduates and undergraduates feel at home from the moment they first walk through the door. You will be matched with a buddy who will welcome you and help integrate you into your team.

Whilst working on exciting and challenging projects we encourage you to take ownership of your career development and support you on your path towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. We provide you with mentors on your journey to chartership and fund your institution membership costs.
