Nick, Robert Bird Group’s (RBG) global leader for Infrastructure and Construction Engineering, brings over 40 years of experience to his role. His passion for developing construction solutions has shaped RBG’s Construction Engineering division and Design for Delivery philosophy. Nick’s expertise spans significant projects across Australia, Asia, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom, fostering trusted relationships with leading contractors. He advocates for addressing buildability issues and pioneered construction methodology and erection sequence (CMES) development to mitigate project risks. Furthermore, Nick is a strong advocate for virtual construction, establishing the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team in 2009 to integrate virtual design and construction visualisation services with BIM processes, enhancing project efficiency and delivery.

He has specialist knowledge in the construction of iconic structures, bridges, tunnels, wharves, stadia, and in the structural design and construction of high-rise and low-rise reinforced, prestressed, precast concrete and steel framed buildings and structures. Throughout Nick’s career he has been involved with the preparation of expert construction and structural engineering reports and has appeared as an expert witness in courts in Queensland and New South Wales in Australia. Nick has been a member of AS1418.4 Tower Crane Australian Standards Code Committee and is also recognised as a leader in the use of analytical design methods for the manufacture of protective equipment for heavy earthmoving and mining machinery.
