Simon is the Pre-Construction Solutions Director of Robert Bird Group (RBG) UK, heading a team of uniquely specialised Engineers, Planners, and Cost Consultants. Originally from South Africa, Simon has worked primarily in the UK but also in Australia and South Africa.

With over 20 years in the construction industry focused on concrete frames and civil engineering, Simon’s experience of working on multiple types of projects such as high-rise residential, high-rise commercial, sports stadia, shopping centres, car parks, energy from waste and railway civils (LUL, Crossrail & HS2) provides him with detailed knowledge of site processes and construction methods. Simon’s roles progressed from Site Engineer to Project Manager, with various years as a Design Manager that recently culminated in nine years in the pre-construction department for a leading UK concrete contractor.

Now heading up Pre-Construction Solutions, he is providing certainty and value to clients through an open and transparent construction advisor role. Programme certainty, considerations for cost and unlocking a projects potential for maximum early value are just some of the skills Simon brings to a project.

Simon has a strong technical background in concrete, ranging across design, workability, testing and innovative materials. With a passion for sustainability and in particular, low carbon concrete/materials and construction methods, he is a founding member of the Low Carbon Concrete Group (LCCG) and is personally responsible for signing up two companies to ConcreteZero.
