
Zito is a Senior Technical Director specialised in long-span, kinetic and architectural structures, with nearly two decades of experience across the structural, mechanical and construction engineering sectors.
He has led several high-profile and iconic projects across Australia, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, earning a reputation for solving complex geometrical and engineering challenges with efficient and aesthetically pleasing solutions that have been both innovative and unique to the industry.
Over the past decade, his practice has been focused on stadia, arenas, events and entertainment, collaborating closely with clients, architects, developers and contractors from early-stage pre-conceptual work through to detailed delivery.
Zito’s most recent project was the redevelopment of FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou Stadium, where he was responsible for developing the architectural and structural concepts for the stadium’s new cable net roof — set to be one of the world’s largest — covering an area of 54,000m² and with clear spans exceeding 280 metres.
On projects involving kinetic, operable and moving elements, Zito has taken on pivotal leadership roles on Ain Dubai — the world’s largest observation wheel — as well as the retractable roof system of the Main Stadium at Kai Tak Sports Park and the operable wings of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Other key projects include the Sydney Football Stadium roof, Dubai’s Museum of the Future, Christchurch Te Kaha Stadium roof, the Al Wasl Plaza Trellis Dome at Expo 2020 Dubai, the SkyDeck bridges connecting the towers of Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, the roof of Terminal II at Kuwait International Airport, the roof of Terminal II at Hong Kong International Airport, and the roof of Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Terminus.
