New artist’s impressions have been released for Western Australia’s new Women and Babies Hospital, offering a clearer view of the major healthcare facility now under construction within the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct in Murdoch.

The 274-bed hospital will replace King Edward Memorial Hospital and expand services and choice for women, newborns and families across Western Australia. The broader New Women and Babies Hospital Project includes new multi-deck car parks within the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct, a major expansion of Osborne Park Hospital and expanded neonatal services at Perth Children’s Hospital.Seen in detail for the first time is the hospital’s main 12-storey block and adjoining six-storey block.

The project has achieved several recent construction milestones, including the project’s largest concrete pour. Around 2,200 cubic metres of concrete was poured over more than 12 hours to help form the central foundation supporting the hospital’s lift and stairwells. Further ground-level pours, tower crane installation and above-ground structure works are progressing through the year.

Robert Bird Group is supporting Managing Contractor, Webuild, in the delivery of the project, providing structural and civil engineering services, including construction engineering support for the hospital works.

Robert Bird Group’s scope is supporting buildability, construction sequencing and design coordination across a complex live precinct. The team’s work includes foundation and superstructure coordination, temporary works interfaces, structural grid rationalisation, a modular slab strategy, civil design coordination and integration with precinct stormwater requirements.

The new hospital is expected to open in 2029 and forms part of Western Australia’s broader health infrastructure investment programme.
