We are delighted to share that Robert Bird Group has been awarded four 2024 Awards of Excellence by the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).
One Central Park – 10-Year Award
One of Sydney’s most prestigious urban residential addresses, One Central Park was a vision for a green and sustainable urban renewal precinct. RBG delivered the permanent works structural engineering design for the entire project, plus the complementary delivery of construction engineering for the erection of the 42-metre cantilevering Sky Garden and “heliostat” reflector frame. The structural solutions provided allowed the dramatic architecture to be realised, whilst minimising time and cost risks on the project, with attention to the incorporation of Safety in Design as a fundamental requirement in the realisation of such a difficult construction undertaking. We are proud to share this award with our client Frasers Property Group, and key project collaborators Atelier Jean Nouvel, PTW Architects, and Watpac Construction NSW.
21 Moorfields – Structural Award
Directly located above Moorgate Underground Station in London, 21 Moorfields is an air-rights 17-storey commercial development that bridges 55 metres over the station. RBG developed a combined design solution and construction methodology that critically contributed to the feasibility of the entire development. Deep launching trusses integrated into the Level 01 internal spaces are used to construct the main compression arches, and are pre-set to reduce movement and tolerance requirements. Congratulations also to our client Land Securities, architect Wilkinson Eyre, and contractor Sir Robert McAlpine.
Merdeka 118 – Structural Award
The second tallest building in the world, Merdeka 118 stands at 678.9 meters. The mixed-use development offers one million square feet of office space across 83 floors, with a six-star hotel on floors 97 – 112, offering 230 rooms and a rooftop restaurant. The top of the tower features two-level 360º observation decks with glass walls and an external glass elevator. Working in partnership with Leslie. E. Robertson Associates (LERA), RBG assisted Fender Katsalidis Architects during the competition phase and were then selected after tender from a list of international structural consultants, to provide structural engineering design from Concept through to detailed Design for the project. Arup Malaysia were the local structural engineer of record. Many thanks to our client PNB, Fender Katsalidis Architects and our collaborators LERA and Arup for the opportunity to work with you.
Battersea Power Station Phase 2 – Construction Award
Battersea Power Station sits at the heart of an exciting new riverside neighbourhood in Central London. The Grade II* listed building is the second phase in the redevelopment of the 42-acre Battersea Power Station site. Following an eight-year restoration process, the London landmark opened its doors to the public for the first time in history in October 2022 and has been transformed into a cultural, retail and leisure hub, where people can live, work, shop and play inside the landmark’s historic setting. The restoration and regeneration of Battersea Power Station celebrates the building’s heritage and is respectful of the original architects’ craftmanship, whilst introducing new innovative building technology to create a modern mixed-use environment.
Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) invited Robert Bird Group to join the project in late 2016, to review and assist with programme challenges. Robert Bird Group facilitated an innovative multi-jump-start erection methodology that dramatically acceleration construction, and led to significant programme benefits. We are proud to share this award with the development’s shareholders and key collaborators BPSDC, IPD, Mace, Buro Happold Engineering and William Hare Engineering.
In addition to these four awards, we are excited to announce that four other projects we have collaborated on have also been recognised with awards of excellence. These accolades further validate our commitment to delivering top-tier projects that set new standards in the industry.
