The first phase of Olympia’s £1.3bn transformation opens to the public today, marking a major milestone in the regeneration of this iconic West London destination.

Robert Bird Group has played a key role as engineer across the redevelopment, contributing to a diverse mix of cultural, commercial and public spaces. These include the British Airways Theatre, hotels by citizen and Hyatt Regency, the 4,000-capacity British Airways ARC music venue, 550,000 sq ft of office space, a co-educational senior school, over 30 restaurants, bars and eateries and a network of public spaces designed for all to enjoy.

Spanning 14 acres, Olympia represents one of London’s most ambitious regeneration projects. It is expected to attract around 10 million visitors annually and contribute over £600 million to the UK economy each year.

“It’s been a privilege to contribute to the transformation of Olympia, a development that will reshape West London’s cultural and commercial landscape. Delivering a project of this scale on a constrained and complex site required close collaboration across the entire team, particularly in navigating structural interfaces with existing heritage assets”, Nick Cole, Director, Robert Bird Group.

At the heart of the development, the Olympia Theatre is the largest new theatre built in London since 1976. It features a 1,575-seats, 1,600sqm of foyer space, and a generous, audience-focused design. The theatre forms part of a landmark joint venture between The Shubert Organization and Trafalgar Entertainment.

Robert Bird Group is proud to have delivered this project alongside a world-class team with Yoo Capital, SPPARC, Heatherwick Studio, Adamson Associates and Laing O’Rourke.
