St Marys IPO Wins ACSE Medium Project Award

St Marys Integrated Project Office (IPO) has been named the Medium Project Award Winner at the ACSE Awards for Excellence in Engineering! This award recognises projects with a construction value between $5M to $25M that demonstrate outstanding structural engineering.

The St Marys IPO, a temporary 200-workstation office, supports the Sydney Metro project, which includes six new metro stations connecting St Marys railway station to the future Western Sydney Aerotropolis. Designed by Robert Bird Group, the IPO features a glazed curtain wall, four commercial levels, and an outdoor terrace, serving as a crucial hub for project teams.

We faced the challenge of ensuring efficient construction within an accelerated timeline while also planning for the future dismantling and relocation of the building. Our early involvement allowed us to minimise waste by aligning building grids with stock lengths of structural steel. Remarkably, the building structure was completed in under 25 business days.

Sustainability was central to the design, enabling disassembly and reuse for future metro offices. With a cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of 563 TCO2-e, this project saved 2,534 TCO2-e over five lifecycles compared to traditional temporary structures.

The St Marys IPO sets a new standard for temporary site offices, providing a comfortable and collaborative work environment while exemplifying our commitment to innovative and sustainable engineering.
