Furlong, Main, Blackburn, & Heatherdale LXRP

Project Description

Robert Bird Group was engaged by CPB Contractors to provide temporary works design for the level crossing removal projects (LXRP) at four locations: Furlong Road and Main Road in St Albans, Blackburn Road in Blackburn, and Heatherdale Road in Mitcham. This initiative is part of a state-wide government funded project aimed at eliminating 50 level crossings across Victoria. The scope of work included designing a temporary station platform, modifications to the existing platform, station structures and rail infrastructure, and implementing protection works. Additionally, Robert Bird Group developed temporary retention systems, such as soil nail shotcrete walls, to support rail traffic.

Project Challenges

Involved from the initial stages of the project, we collaborated with the contractor to assess the proposed construction methodologies and determine temporary works requirements. Our responsibilities included scoping, designing, inspecting, and certifying the temporary works, as well as overseeing decommissioning.
