One Blackfriars is a 50-story, prime residential tower alongside the Thames in London. Initially engaged by basement builders Laing O’Rourke, then superstructure builders Brookfield Multiplex, RBG has provided a raft of Construction Engineering services including:

  • Crane tie system development and design, involving complex coordination with the cladding system in order to ensure compatibility, and partial use of permanent works columns (including redesign) in lieu of temporary bridging columns
  • Redesign of basement slabs, and design of temporary propping, to incorporate hoist and tower crane penetrations
  • Design of a bespoke grillage, spanning between basement columns and over a number of level changes, to support a common tower and mammoth hoist
  • Design of a bespoke grillage to support a tower crane without overloading the existing basement floor system
  • Facilitation of site logistics by the design of temporary trafficking slabs on void-former
  • Assessment of as-built permanent works for heavy plant loading
