Project Description
Regional Rail Link aimed to improve capacity on both regional and metropolitan lines by removing major bottlenecks in Victoria’s rail network as they travelled through Melbourne’s west into the heart of the city. The works included 25 kilometres of new broad gauge double railway track with a design speed of 160km/h and two new railway stations at Tarneit and Wyndham Vale. The project also included a number of grade separations and new rail bridges.
Package E of the Regional Rail Link comprised the section of rail between Deer Park to West Werribee Junction. Robert Bird Group provided temporary works designs for the construction of 15 new road and rail bridges. Temporary works designs included structural design of temporary retaining walls, site protection, and bridge girder stability with temporary ties as well as temporary propping of soil nails walls. Robert Bird Group also provided independent review and certification of various temporary works items for the project, along with civil design for temporary access tracks to the Werribee River project, which consisted of a crushed rock working platform on the riverbanks for a 60-tonne piling rig and other tracked plant.
