This prestige tower is made up of retail, commercial and luxury residential zones and occupies the last prime CBD Brisbane riverside site. The luxury apartments crowning the tower featured up to 5m cantilevered balconies in a highly sculptured form offering panoramic views up both reaches of the Brisbane River.

Key technical challenges

Significant and interesting aspects of the project and Robert Bird Group’s role include the following:

  • The building features a central core utilising only the external ring of the core and the external building frame for lateral stability. This solution offered maximum flexibility in core planning for the multi-use tower together with simplicity in construction.
  • Detailed analysis and innovative temporary works structures allow the lift and stair core to span over alluvial deposits from an ancient creek bed, a heritage drain structure and the principal telecommunications trunk main connecting Brisbane and Sydney.
  • Detailed 3D stress analysis and produced documentation that allowed the builder to form and construct the columns with a structurally efficient and simple reinforcement layout.
