St Lukes Aged Care
St Lukes Aged Care at Little Bay is a modern aged care facility with Landcom’s master-planned Prince Henry Development at Little Bay. This project features four levels of independent living units over a single basement level of car parking. There are also community facilities located on the Ground Floor, including a commercial kitchen and laundry.
The building has been designed and detailed to cater for specific requirements of the aged residents, including special allowance for electrical and mechanical services for care and communication throughout the building.
Key technical challenges
Significant and interesting aspects of the project and Robert Bird Group’s role include the following:
- Prefabricated, grout-filled load-bearing wall systems at four meter centers. This system results in very thin and efficient structural slabs and footings, whilst still
- providing flexibility for services, high speed erection and reduced construction programme over conventional methods
- The use of precast walls internally also reduced transfer slab requirements and overall construction cost for the project.
- The concrete roof reduced construction time and provided a durable weather proofing solution in the near-coastal environment.
