Simon is the European Managing Director of Robert Bird Group, leading a team of 200 Structural, Civil and Geotechnical engineers from an office in London. Originally from New Zealand, Simon has worked in London since 2002, and joined Robert Bird Group in 2009.
In addition to his Managing Director responsibilities, Simon remains involved in projects as a Project Sponsor/Director, and actively supports and technically reviews projects that align to his strengths and experience which includes tower design, large residential and mixed use developments, and Design for Manufacture and Assemble (DfMA) projects. His recent projects include Spire London (67 Storey residential tower); St Johns Wood Square (£600m super prime residential); The Broadway (£350m mixed use development) and multiple phases of residential redevelopment at Elephant and Castle (2500 homes in towers up to 37 storeys).
Simon has a passion for Design Leadership, and enjoys applying these skills supporting teams in identifying and delivering Value on projects. He believes that as detail design is increasing undertaken through digitally automated processes, that the engineer’s role is to deliver Value through design leadership, innovative engineering solutions that are inherently buildable and enable the architecture and product, and by holistically considering the challenges of achieving an integrated design that efficiently accommodates the demands of gravity, wind and construction.
