The Caprice Gold Spa Hotel Istanbul is one of Europe’s largest hotels. It features 1,200 hotel bedrooms, 25 indoor and five outdoor pools/spas, conference facilities, a mosque, and multiple restaurants.

Robert Bird Group was part of an international design team led by Architect Broadway Malyan, and provided full structural and civil engineering design services for the project.

The site lies in a highly seismic area, and is only 27km from the North Anatolian fault line. The building is constructed from reinforced concrete, with lateral stability provided by concrete core and shear walls designed for a ductile response factor of 2.6 in accordance with Eurocode 8. Due to the size and irregularity of the building, the superstructure is separated into three seismically independent structures above level 1 resulting in a 500mm movement joint at the top between each building.
