Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 comprises a 1-kilometre-long x 80-metre-wide six-level concourse building, a six-level below-ground 20-metre-deep terminal and baggage handling facilities, and a three-level car park and mosque.

Robert Bird Group assisted Al Naboodah Laing O’Rourke during the bid process with a wide range of value engineering solutions to meet cost and time targets. Some of these solutions were accepted by the client as beneficial to the project after rigorous evaluation by the engineers of record.

Key technical challenges

RBG’s involvement included redesign of apron, departures and arrivals levels of the concourse building and the floor plates and roof of the car park.

  • Tender assistance
  • Value engineering and concept design for new solutions
  • Detailed design of value engineered solutions.
  • Coordination and review of design documentation for over 1000 A1 Drawings in a nine-month documentation programme
