LIV Golf is a professional golf tour that emerged in 2022 and hosted eight tournaments globally, five of which were held in the USA. The LIV Golf Tour subsequently expanded to 14 tournaments in 2023, adding tournaments in the USA, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Robert Bird Group was the client’s third-party technical engineering reviewer, and temporary works certifier for the tournaments in Bedminster NJ, Boston MA, Chicago IL and Miami FL. RBG’s scope included:

  • Independent reviews of all temporary structures accessible to the public;
    Foundation design and validation.
  • Design checks of bespoke elements such as pedestrian bridges and cable
    suspended camera system towers.
  • Site supervision during erection and installation.
  • Sign-off that the structural elements were safe for public occupancy.

Key technical challenges

Project delivery challenges faced by RBG included coordinating multiple temporary works subcontractors, very short timeframes for installation and certification, designing structures to span over water hazards, lack of geotechnical information, and developing structural solutions that could be installed in hours, if required.

Added Value

Robert Bird Group provided a consistent structural review process across the US tournaments, ensuring that design and construction best practice was maintained. This enabled the successful delivery of each tournament, including working with the events team on securing local planning submissions and construction permits.
