ICD Brookfield Place picks up a significant award at MEED Projects Awards 2022

ICD-Brookfield Place has won the most significant award at this year’s MEED Project Awards -Project of the Year 2022 across all sectors and regions within MENA – as well as picking up the win for Building Project of the Year in MENA. An amazing result for this landmark project in Dubai.

Working with our client, ICD Brookfield, and Architects Foster +Partners, RBG provided structural, civil and construction engineering services on this best-in-class development. With the deepest basement in Dubai, the 7-level basement sets a new benchmark for Dubai and a legacy that will provide future developers with options not previously considered of for underground car parking in this region. The development also makes efficient use of piles installed for a previous, abandoned development. This was achieved through engineering evaluation and testing to incorporate the existing piles into the new piled raft design and construction.

The superstructure is a central core with perimeter columns supporting composite steel and concrete floors. There are 20 tower columns which transfer to 8 mega columns through the basements. The transfer is achieved by a 5 storey deep A-frame that follows the architectural façade expression to provide 36m clear openings on all sides for the foyer entry. The A-frame also acts as a virtual outrigger by efficiently mobilizing the bulk of the tower gravity load to resist the lateral loads.

The architectural form was also used to advantage at the top of the tower. An alternative column arrangement was achieved by using sloping columns that followed the façade lines. This allowed the eight, top most corner columns to be removed, providing panoramic views at the corners of the roof top Sky Garden.
