Major Milestone Celebration at Olympia

Yesterday, we celebrated the topping out of Olympia Central. We are thrilled to have delivered Structural, Civil, Geotechnical, and Construction Engineering services for the 15-storey mixed-use commercial development. It will feature the largest office terraces in West London, preserving the historic Grade II Listed art deco Empire Hall facade from the 1920s. Offering over 60,000m2 of space, it includes offices, retail units, exhibition spaces, conference facilities, restaurants and more!

RBG introduced a top-down construction methodology to reduce the construction programme and mitigate the impact of ground movement from building a new basement adjacent to important listed Heritage buildings on all sides. We also embraced the Laing O’Rourke approach to pre-fabrication and DfMA, adopting extensive use of the Lattice plank slab system and Twinwall cores to improve the construction programme, site safety, reduce material wastage and deliver an exceptional quality of construction.

Olympia Central also benefitted from our approach to design and construction leadership as we reframed the building to simplify gravity load paths and reduce demands on the core by reducing unbalanced gravity loads. This improved programme and simplified construction while reducing risks to the adjoining heritage buildings.
