This mixed use centre provides facilities for fitness, business, retail and health services. The building also houses laboratories and processing facilities for the Australian Red Cross. The fitness area comprises a 25m pool, indoor sports court which is used by the Queensland University of Technology for teaching and research purposes as well as being open to the general public. QUT also provides health clinics in optometry, podiatry, nutrition and human movements where students can refine their skills.

Project Features

  • Precast perimeter columns and spandrels were used to eliminate scaffolding and therefore significantly reduce construction time and cost for the client.
  • The QUT facilities were relocated to achieve vertical alignment of the swimming pool, gymnasium and sports hall to reduce structurally borne noise and minimise vibration issues in adjacent tenancies.
  • The Red Cross facility is designed to be operational for four days post disaster to provide essential blood products to emergency facilities.
