St Georges Tower

At 181m high, St George’s Tower is one of the tallest residential buildings in the United Kingdom. The tower contains 167 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. The 48 residential floors are crowned by a two-storey penthouse and an 11.4m-high wind turbine.

Energy efficiency is one of the building’s most important features, with the turbine powering the tower’s lighting.

Water is drawn from the London aquifer at the base of the tower, where the use of heat pump technology extracts warmth from the water and uses it for heating residences in the winter. St George’s Tower requires one-third of the amount of energy used by comparable structures.

 

Added Value

Our approach during the initial due diligence and value-engineering phase resulted in the reduction of the core wall and typical slab thicknesses. We also conducted an in-depth study of the dynamic performance of the building and the piled foundations under different load conditions to satisfy both strength and occupant comfort criteria under wind loading.
