Project Description
This prestigious project will be the National Museum of the UAE. The main museum is approximately 19,000m2 and covered by an elaborate steel roof structure shaped like an Eagle’s Wings to resemble the UAE’s national emblem. RBG’s role was to assist the contractor during construction with construction methodology, temporary works design and crane lifting/ layout strategy, design of all design and build engineering.
Project Challenges
RBG carried out in-depth studies on concrete shrinkage and concrete placement to achieve a more favourable pour size for the contractor to overcome the stringent pour sizes outlined in the specifications and therefore achieve a more efficient construction program.
The project re-started in 2018 and RBG has been commissioned to assess the expansive concrete structure for relevant durability considerations given the project had been put on hold and exposed to the aggressive Gulf environment for seven years. RBG has been involved with the analytical briefing and testing of the structure to ensure that the design life of the concrete structure is met. RBG is also providing temporary works solutions to the contractor for its cranes and other critical elements on the project.
