Robert Bird Group partner with Limak Insaat to deliver the renowned Spotify Camp Nou Stadium project

We are pleased to announce our involvement as the Principal Design and Build Structural Engineer and Construction Engineer for Limak Insaat on the refurbishment and expansion of the iconic Spotify Camp Nou Stadium project in Barcelona.

The design will feature a tension cable roof, and when completed the stadium will be the largest covered stadium in the world with a surface area of 55,000 square metres (250 metres long and 220 metres wide) and a final capacity of 105,000, making it a construction project of global scale and complexity.

The work will transform what is already a European icon into what will become one of the world’s best stadiums for the city and people of Barcelona.

Limak and Robert Bird Group have worked together since 2015 when we first supported the construction of the Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2 expansion – one of the most complex structures we have ever been involved with.  This project included the development of the adopted Construction Method and Erection Sequence and associated temporary works.

Following this successful collaboration we supported Limak with their tender for Camp Nou.  This partnership again included the application of our CMES approach, advanced digital engineering, and full digital construction rehearsals to develop a winning, integrated solution, reducing time, cost, and risks.

Taking on the responsibility to now carry forward the 1957 Fransesc Mitjans Camp Nou Stadium design for the premier football club, Futbol Club Barcelona (FCB) for decades to come is challenging, exciting and humbling. We are confident the capabilities and trust between our businesses will successfully deliver a premium stadium which will further elevate the legacy of Camp Nou and enhance the experience for FCB and their passionate fans.
