UQ Prentice Building – Refurbishment

Robert Bird Group was commissioned by the University of Queensland for the refurbishment of the Prentice building at the St Lucia campus. The Prentice building was constructed in the 1960’s. The refurbishment included an expansion of the ground floor and substantial rearrangement of internal spaces requiring extensive structural changes.

Project Features

  • The refurbished project included a large student services facility, refurbished lecture theatre and teaching spaces and new commercial spaces for the University’s Property and Facilities Division.
  • The building also received a new facade requiring careful checking of existing structure to support an increased facade load.
  • Other services provided included design of new bored pier foundations for external access stairs, design of several building extensions and fire rating checks on existing steel members.
